Sounds Around Town

Sounds Around Town

Grab a pick-me-up cuppa joe or a wind-me-down craft beer, add live local music and your honey next to you on the picnic blanket, and what could possibly make a summer evening more... perfect? Oh, yeah – it's FREE.

WQLN invites you to Sounds Around Town 2014, a series of free Friday evening concerts with some of our favorite local acts, emceed by WQLN Radio's own Gary Finney, all-around groovy guy and host of The Third Set (Monday-Thursday, 11pm-midnight on 91.3FM).

Bring your blanket or beach chair, your favorite snacks, and your appetite for beer and coffee sampling, courtesy of Erie Beer Company and McCormick Coffee. Then settle in for an evening of rock, jazz, funk, and fusion by Erie favorite Eric Brewer & Friends (July 11); jazzy, pulse-pumping original tunes from The Heliotropes (July 18); and bluesy originals from up-and-coming singer/songwriter Bronsen Euard & The Essentials (August 1).

As an added bonus, you'll get a peek at the behind-the-scenes operation of WQLN-TV and Radio production, and you might become a WQLN star! So, smile pretty, because we'll record the concerts live and air them on WQLN-TV on Thursday nights this summer and on WQLN Radio throughout the coming year.

Showtime for each concert is 7pm, outdoors at WQLN
(inside if the weather turns) 8425 Peach Street, Erie.

Cost: FREE

Eric Brewer & Friends

Eric Brewer has pursued all aspects of his instrument during his career as a guitarist from electrified rock, to jazz, funk, blues, acoustic, country, classical, and all points in between. His band, made up of members Charlie Meyer, Steve Barone, and Ralph Reitinger III, has developed a remarkable onstage rapport, propelling the band's improvisational element to extraordinary heights. The band draws inspiration from a huge list of influences, mixing guitar based rock, jazz, funk and fusion to create a jam band style that is uniquely their own.

The Heliotropes

The Heliotropes began as a band steeped in jazz who opted for original expression on acoustic and electric instruments including guitars, upright electric bass, violin, loops and percussion. We play original songs about nature, travel, and love with a sensibility which lets the listener breathe with the music. We love space and quiet. If a lot of popular music seems like being stuck in a Las Vegas traffic jam, think of The Heliotropes as an escape to the desert in bloom. We are Katie Chriest: voice, guitar; Abby Badach: violin, voice; David Blaetz: bass; Sheldon Peterson: guitars, voice.

Bronsen Euard & The Essentials

Bronsen Euard & The Essentials, made up of members Bronsen Euard, Jake Mingoy, and Mike Hammar, love playing their instruments, having fun wasting time,... and chess. They're like the three musketeers but a little bit louder.
