Sounds Around Town

Sounds Around Town

WQLN's community performance series, Sounds Around Town, returns with an expanded schedule, a refurbished venue, and a new lineup of regional performers. Sounds Around Town is a free, open-air community summer concert series held at WQLN’s wooded pavilion.

Bring your blanket or beach chair, your favorite snacks, and your appetite for beer and coffee sampling, courtesy of Erie Beer Company and Mill Creek Coffee. Then settle in for an evening of rock, jazz, funk, fusion, and a Playhouse preview.

As an added bonus, you'll get a peek at the behind-the-scenes operation of WQLN-TV and Radio production. We'll record the concerts live and air them on WQLN-TV on Thursday nights this summer and on WQLN Radio throughout the coming year.

Showtime for each concert is 7pm, outdoors at WQLN
(inside if the weather turns) 8425 Peach Street, Erie.

Gem City Jazz Ensemble

The Gem City Jazz Ensemble was formed in 2003 by then-conductor Tim McKinney as a smaller, spin-off group dedicated to performing jazz, big band, and swing sounds from all eras. The Jazz Band has a large repertoire that includes such jazz greats as Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Buddy Rich.

Salmon Frank is a high energy, fun-oriented band that plays some of the finest venues in the NW Pennsylvania, NE Ohio and SW New York region. Line up ranges from 3 piece acoustic to 6 piece party band!

Erie Playhouse, celebrating 100 years

The stars shine bright over the Erie Playhouse, one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the nation. Recognized as one of the 10 best community theatres in national competition, it remains at the forefront of the arts not only in Northwest Pennsylvania, but the entire state.

Liquid Nixon

Liquid Nixon’s sound is a culmination of old school sound with modern sensibility… or is it old school sensibility with modern sound. Who cares? It’s Jazzy, funky rock that we enjoy writing & playing!
